Charming and enticing with aromas of sweet cherries, strawberries, cedar, dried herbs and some baking spices. Sensational concentration with a vivid center-palate on the full to medium body. The fine and firm tannins are harmoniously balanced by the succulent red currants and crisp acidity. From organically grown grapes. Vegan. Try after 2028.
WINE SPECTATOR TOP 100 #63
A lively, medium- to full-bodied red, with rich hints of melted licorice and espresso layered with aromas and flavors of blackberry tart, dried mint and olive tapenade. Well-knit, with a fine frame of chalky tannins. Drink now through 2025. 7,500 cases made, 2,500 cases imported.
In the bottle with the white label, the Selvapiana 2020 Chianti Rufina Riserva Vigneto Bucerchiale is nicely balanced with lots of fresh fruit, tart cherry, candied watermelon and crushed rose. The effect is pretty and balanced in this 100% Sangiovese. This is one of the nicest expressions to be found from Chianti Rufina in this vintage. The tannins are dry and powdery over a mid-weight mouthfeel.
A dark, brooding style, this red evokes hibiscus, raspberry, cherry and spice flavors, with an underlying iron note. It's dense, yet focused and vibrant, with ample fruit to stand up to its muscular structure. Balanced and expressive now, yet this needs time. Best from 2027 through 2048.
Vin Ruspo, from the Carmignano production zone near Prato in Tuscany, is one of Italy’s most complex styles of rosato. A blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Canaiolo and Cabernet Franc; deep orange appearance; aromas of orange zest, pear, pectin and orange roses. Medium-full with a rich, complex finish that is dry and elegantly styled, this has appealing flavors of orange and strawberry. Enjoy over the next 2-3 years.
100% Chardonnay; fruit sourced from the best parcels of the Löwengang estate, at elevations ranging from 750-1080 feet above sea level. Spontaneous fermentation in barriques and large casks. Slightly cloudy, medium-intense yellow; aromas of lemongrass, saffron and orang crocus. Medium-full with excellent concentration, very good acidity, excellent persistence and notable complexity. The finish offers beautiful freshness and notes of orange pekoe tea and lemon peel. This has long been one of Italy’s most distinctive Chardonnays, and the 2018 is first-rate. Enjoy over the next 5-8 years, though I would not be surprised if this was still drinking well in ten years.
This is the 10 Anni Library re-release of this vintage. This is maturing nicely, with ripe, sweet black currant, blackberry and black cherry core flavors accented by spice, leather, mineral and woodsy flavors. Complex, balanced and long, with an aftertaste echoing the fruit and savory elements. Drink now through 2037. From Italy.
